Magnetic order and magnetic properties of the oxygen deficient SmBaMn2O5 layered perovskite

Magnetism in SmBaMn2O5 was investigated on a single crystal by magnetic and neutron diffraction measurements. This is an oxygen deficient perovskite with layered ordering of Sm Ba cations. Mn atoms are coordinated five oxygens forming square pyramid they ordered checkerboard pattern expanded-compressed pyramids the ab-plane. The study revealed ferrimagnetic moments below TN=134 K. Macroscopic measurements reveal very anisotropic behavior. Measurements external field parallel (M||c) perpendicular (M?c) to c-axis confirm that this easy axis above 10 Below temperature, sublattice begins polarize magnetization M||c decreases while M?c experiences huge increase. indicates begin order around K ab-plane minor component opposes overall from sublattices.
